The Waterloo Farmers and Crafters Market Cooperative is pleased to announce that our AGM was a success, and we have elected a full board for the 2016 season.

We thank Bhupi Rajput and Shelley Waine for their service on the board, and wish them well in their other endeavours.

Brenda Hodge will continue as treasurer, completing her two-year term in 2017. Nathan Klassen and Kathleen Stahlbaum have each been elected to a second term on the board. Anita D’Hondt, Sylvia Hook, and Mandy Tempest are newly elected board members; all of them have been involved with the market as vendors and/or as volunteers in the past, as well. Board positions and roles will be determined at the board’s upcoming meeting on April 7th.

Several changes to the bylaws were also passed at the AGM, primarily strengthening the coop’s existing rules, and adding a system for handling infractions. You can view the updated policy manual here.

The board has received a number of applications for the position of on-site coordinator, and will be reviewing those in the coming weeks, in order to have that position filled before the market opens for the season in late-May. We are also seeking volunteers for the upcoming market season; whether you’re interested in the behind-the-scenes administration of the market or just want to help with set-up or take-down, we could use your help! Because of the LRT construction, the coming year is likely to be a challenging one for the market; the board is exploring alternate locations with the city, due to noise and dust concerns with the construction adjacent to the square. Stay tuned for details as the season draws near. The board is aiming to run a pared-down market, focusing on vendor retention and market promotion in the community. We will not be organizing live music (buskers welcome!) or special events for the 2016 season; look for those resuming once we’re through the construction challenges.

2016 Uptown Market Annual General Meeting

The Waterloo Farmers’ and Crafters’ Market Cooperative is hosting our Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, March 9th at 6:30 pm at the Seven Shores Cafe and Bakery on Regina St. in Waterloo.

We will begin the meeting by reviewing last year’s successes and challenges, discussing partnerships, reviewing the Financial Report and electing Board members. Many of our Board members are coming to the end of their term and we are looking for some wonderful people to fill their shoes! Members, this is a great opportunity to get your voice heard! We will also be accepting new members at this meeting. You do not need to be a vendor to be a member. The cost is 10$ to become a member of our cooperative.

Following the formal part of the agenda will be an opportunity for members and the general public to discuss the Uptown market – what is working, and what we could improve on for the 2016 season! We are also looking for volunteers, so if you are interested in helping out, we want to see you at the meeting!

This meeting will ultimately serve to help shape the future of the Uptown Market, and provide us with ideas and opportunities for growth so we can serve our vendors, and the broader community, better!
