Market Day is Fast Approaching!

May 7th, 2017 | Posted by Anita in Events - (Comments Off on Market Day is Fast Approaching!)

We are gearing up for the market season, and it appears to be approaching faster than we anticipated.  Applications for the start date will be accepted up until May 14, 2017, for best choices in the placement of your booth/s.  The market will do everything it can to assist vendors in snapping up that special space. The Civic Square has added some wonderful new things.  A giant Scrabble board, for those who are word lovers at heart, a Snakes and Ladders board for those who wish to relive a childhood favorite or introduce a new generation to a classic game.  The Giant Jenga game will be out for those who want to test their skills and a story for the children to follow and choose their own adventure.  The market will be ensuring that we attempt not to block off these wonderful new additions.  They tend to add a little more ambiance to the market and taunt us while we are selling our wares.

While some changes will occur this season, we are still the same friendly family of food and craft vendors, that have always met each season in the Civic Square.  A family of individuals, and or families that wish to share with the community everything they have to offer.  I am anticipating the start date, and cannot wait to see what our vendors bring.  It is always so wonderful to see all of the fantastic crafts, and smell, all of the wonderful food smells.  The smell of fresh baked bread, that calls out to us, the beautiful colors of the fresh produce, enticing us to bring them to our dinner tables.  Finding that one great find, we can’t wait to tell a friend or family member about.  This is what the market is all about.  With friendly service and many smiles, the market becomes a favorite place for everyone.  A place where everyone is accepted and everyone can enjoy the atmosphere.

We are excited to see some of our returning vendors, this season.  We have missed many of our market family as the construction proved to be cruel.  However, we can make it through even the darkest, noisiest and dirtiest of times, and come together once again.  Opening Day is May 18, 2017, 3-7 pm, in our beloved spot in the Uptown Waterloo Public Square located at 75 King Street South in

See You there!

The Waterloo Farmers’ and Crafters’ Market Cooperative is hosting our Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, March 9th at 6:30 pm at the Seven Shores Cafe and Bakery on Regina St. in Waterloo.

We will begin the meeting by reviewing last year’s successes and challenges, discussing partnerships, reviewing the Financial Report and electing Board members. Many of our Board members are coming to the end of their term and we are looking for some wonderful people to fill their shoes! Members, this is a great opportunity to get your voice heard! We will also be accepting new members at this meeting. You do not need to be a vendor to be a member. The cost is 10$ to become a member of our cooperative.

Following the formal part of the agenda will be an opportunity for members and the general public to discuss the Uptown market – what is working, and what we could improve on for the 2016 season! We are also looking for volunteers, so if you are interested in helping out, we want to see you at the meeting!

This meeting will ultimately serve to help shape the future of the Uptown Market, and provide us with ideas and opportunities for growth so we can serve our vendors, and the broader community, better!

Have you heard the buzzzzzzzz?

July 24 at the UpTown Market, we are exploring the environment and its impact on our food system.  We have lots of information about the weather and environmental initiatives to share.

With all the buzz about the plight of bees, we thought we would bring our pollinating partners into the Square for you to see; up close and personal. Don’t worry, you aren’t in danger of a sting.  The only danger is living in a world without bees if things don’t turn around quickly!

Get pickled this week!

July 13th, 2014 | Posted by Anita in Events - (Comments Off on Get pickled this week!)

On Thursday July 17, Theresa from Garden Party will take us through pickling step-by-step with demos at 4pm and 6pm.  Pickling is a great way to use those bushels of cucumbers that we all end up with in our gardens, and it is also a way to get creative and make some tasty snacks and side dishes for months to come.

Mother Nature has blessed us with a bounty of resources that not only feed and house us, but also clothe and adorn us! At the Uptown Market on July 3rd, people of all ages will have the opportunity to create a craft using materials provided by Mother Nature. Longtime Market vendor Shelley, of Shelley’s Stoneworks, will be showing us her fossil collection (most of which she has mined herself!) and for a few dollars, you can even take home your own lovely earth-inspired craft!
